Samson is just a man who wants to sit on his porch and watch the neighborhood go by as he widdles with his knife. Tainted by the perils of Vietnam which have shaped his sour little world, he also watches the school kids get on and off and wait for the bus. Soon he crosses path with J Boy, a small kid who doesn't seem to have much to live for, but it is his accidental friendship with Samson that inspires hope for them both that the world can be a better place for all...and it all happens on the front porch.

A young girl discovers a beam of light after a confrontation of mockery she gets from some other children. She realizes that this is no ordinary light. It seems to communicate with her. She finds herself understanding what is being said. The Ray of light seems to come from the sky, but it is hard to see. It only appears for her when she needs help as she grows throughout her life. She oddly befriend this light and places much love and energy into it, but is this her imagination?
